A lot of people don't want to see #political discourse on Mastodon. I don't mind it, but I do want it to be oriented toward the practical rather than the performative. #twitter rewards amplification, which turns political discourse turns into a competition over who can mast impress upon others just how urgent things are, until that practically drowns our efforts to organize for change. And we carry those habits with us everywhere if we're not mindful.

I think that a vital factor for the long-term sustainability of Mastadon for the RPG design community is to lean more towards the Google+ model than twitter.

We have a far more generous character limit here that allows us to have far more nuanced design conversation than twitter did. By highlighting the difference in affordances we will naturally see a form of content specialization.

Let's embrace analysis and discussion over hot takes and discourse, shall we?

I’d like to follow more #Friends, by which I mean #Quakers. FCNL’s social media posts are one of my favourite sources of legislative related activism and news elsewhere. If you’re Quaker or have suggestions please say hi if you’d like. 🕊🌍🙏

Haven't posted a picture of my cat lately. Here, have one of him looking contemplative.

Bashing my head against Firebase. I think it has interesting ideas in it, but it's sufficiently different from the sorts of webdev I usually do. Server-side logic and architecture is where I live, so the degree to which this minimizes that baffles me! I just need some access controls, but that's a later problem.

Fediverse made me realize that a more boring social media is better. I'm not joking.

Adventure bread turned out pretty delicious. Still unconvinced it is a good idea to put butter in bread dough.

Missing sitting for a long afternoon reading and writing in a coffee shop with great ambiance. Haven't done that properly since a year before the pandemic, even, due to Life.

My favorite place is back in Boulder, Trident, a community-owned space with amazing tea and a wood-burning stove in the winter, and a back patio in summer. I want more of that in my world.

OK who can help take Matt Mullenweg up on his offer to bring #Tumblr up to full #indieweb standards? cc: @humanetech

Not a joke: this is a very real opportunity... #openweb

Brioche was a bread dreamed up by the utterly deranged. DOUGH WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO CONTAIN DAIRY. YEARS of baking, yet no real-world quality improvement by using enriched dough.

I do not like this adventure bread at all. Very unlikely to try this again. How did they ever make brioche before kitchen power tools? Even with an electric mixer the experience has been awful.

Tfw you start making challah too late in the evening for the rises involved, and without all the ingredients you need. ADVENTURE BREAD it is.

#followfriday Me! You can follow me! I talk about game design, museum work, textiles, teen advocacy, rocks, maybe some other stuff!

More importantly, if you know folks who talk about any of those things, I want to follow them, please tell me who they are!!

if you were wondering what happens when (doesn't allow the letter E) meets (only allows the letter E):

Hey, with a new influx of folks here, I'd like to share this again for a good friend:

:heart_trans: :heart_trans: :heart_trans:

Any donations you can send her way would be deeply meaningful!

I would almost go so far as to say that you shouldn't try to convince others to try out Mastodon unless you're able to recommend a server that suits their interests and/or personality.

Too many people bounce off of the Fediverse because they came in through the wrong door and didn't see how it was worth it to try another.

One of the unexpected joys of the fediverse over other places is the addition of weird domains appended on to everyone's usernames.

It makes the web feel like more than just four websites again.

It's both a signal of a smaller more intimate internet and also a larger and far more diverse internet at the same time!

Not planning on getting a tattoo, but if I did, how's this for a big upper back piece?

I don't know why, but my brain finally today parsed "read a person" in Apocalypse World in the drag sense of the phrase. PLEASE tell me someone has made a game with that move.

RPG debrief questions

What do you like to do at the end of sessions of an RPG to check in that folks are having fun, doing ok, and to get a sense of what folks want to see at the table next time? I'm trying to build up a list of tools.

To be clear, I would love to just go to bed, but I have to stay up another hour to give my cat his meds. He's a complex fuzzy guy.

Maybe I can at least get ready for bed first.
